Gut Strengthening Saurkraut

What is the hype with sauerkraut? This tasty topping contains great probiotics to strengthen your digestive system. This occurs through the healthy bacteria that form through the fermentation process. I know, bacteria are deemed the enemy, however it has become much more popular knowledge to understand that "good" bacteria are essential for our immune and digestive systems.


  • 1 medium cabbage

  • 2 Tbsp sea salt

  • 1 Tbsp of Caraway seeds


Core and shred the cabbage. Mix all the ingredients in a bowl until blended then pound with a clean wooden mallet or squeeze with your hands for a good 8-10min to release the juice. Once juicy transfer to an air-tight mason jar or crock pot. Push the mixture down so the juice covers it completely. Close tightly and let sit at room temperature for 3 days before storing it in the fridge. You can keep your sauerkraut in the fridge for several months but I have a feeling you will have devoured your delicious batch within the first month.

Serve with crackers and dip, barbecue lunches, fritters, sandwiches the options are limitless.
